There’s a great article on CNN right now about Lanvin’s winter ad campaign featuring people of all sizes, colors, and ages to create intimate images that resemble portraits.

Some companies are starting to understand that potential customers want to see diversity in the models wearing their clothing. This quote, from Ari Cohen, of the amazing blog, Advanced Style, speaks to that:

“I think the message is to embrace individuality and personal style, and alternative notions of beauty,” Cohen said. “It’s hugely important to show more diversity in advertising. By focusing on superyoung models and too much Photoshopping, advertisers set up unreal expectations for consumers.”

The article is certainly worth a look: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/28/living/lanvin-real-people-ads/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

All sizes, colours and ages? A couple of rich older women? A few token black people? 100% thin people? I don’t see the fuss, to be honest with you. Lanvin gets a D+ for effort, I guess.

The DC kids ad, though, that girl is so precious :’)

Vanity Fair - Zoe Saldana [ Harlem Renaissance ] Uptown Girl Shoot - Aug 2009

*~faints~*

!!!

Y’know, I would love a Mad Men-style TV series based on the Harlem Renaissance. 1) It was a fascinating historical and cultural period of American history that’s rarely touched in pop culture. 2) Roles for POC that do not involve the being maids and chauffeurs or the civil rights movement (as important as the latter was, it sometimes seems like the only historical period associated with POC in pop culture). 3) Period costume porn!

Hear, hear! I definitely think it’s beyond time for a Harlem Renaissance-based TV show. Can you imagine the unreal awesome of it? I mean, really, WHY ISN’T THIS ON MY TELEVISION RIGHT NOW? Get on it, TVLand. I’m tired of your shenanigans, give me something worth watching.

So in love with this
