Just real quick because it seems a lot of people lately are missing the point.

You can love and accept yourself for who you are while also acknowledging that you have inherent privilege(s) over others.

In fact, you’re not really fully accepting yourself if you don’t include acknowledging your privilege(s) in that acceptance.

Privilege is not a bad thing. Being told you have privilege, or acknowledging that you have it, isn’t bad. It just is. You can’t help it and nobody is expecting you to help it. Being insulted when somebody tells you to check your privilege is like being insulted when somebody tells you you have blond hair and you do.

We all have privilege whether we like it or not. You can’t, in the vast majority of cases, get rid of it, but you can acknowledge it and at least try to do some good with it.

The thing about privilege is that it’s unconscious. You don’t know it’s there, and the harm it might be doing to yourself and others, until you acknowledge it. Would you rather unconsciously contribute to the oppression of other people, or consciously try to stop oppression? These are the only two options. The choice is yours to make.
